Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Boycott Rhino

I say we boycott Rhino until they provide the entire "archive" of the Dead & Jerry for sale...

BS pulling it, and not even offering a source of purchasing the stuff that isn't commercially released..

Believe me, they are no heads. They are businessmen, sitting in a room thinking, well, how can we maximize profit. We have to make our SBDs exclusive! I would, to quote a speeding arrow man, bey my left nut!

F That... Boycott Rhino. What can they do? Pull the AUD? Refuse to stream?

I'd like to thank those ASSHOLES, who posted links to Speeding Arrow and GDFiles.com on Dead.net. It takes a lot of balls and no fucking brains, to advertise bootleg Grateful Dead downloads on the band's own website.

Same goes for a handful of idiots, who are hell bent upon posting instructions about hacking this website too. There comes a time to STFU and don't makes asses of yourselves.

It's either these losers, or some Grateful Dead haters gang trying to blow the whole thing up in our faces...

well I agree with what everyone has said here, and the post below about Arrow. It goes without saying that I owe a big thanks to Zephyr, Germain and others who have done so much to share this music with us, for little reward except knowing they are making lots of Dead fans happy.

I'm listening now to 5/16/81 - the very last SBD I got from GDF yesterday. A show, by the grace of God and Germain - that I can listen to. Because I'm goddamm sure it'll never be released or see the light of day otherwise.

Corporate fascism. Go look up Mussolini sometime. He coined the term "fascism" and is quoted in his biography/speeches as defining fascism as basically CORPORATE fascism, where you use corporate "values" and strategy to run a country or culture.
It means basically that only things that can be controlled and sold for profit have any real value. You know - like a beautiful meadow is worthless until you develop it into a shopping complex. These Mofuckers would charge us for SUNSHINE if they could figure out how.

So - a few hundred people maybe got some lossless shows from GDF or Arrow. Most of which will never be released anyway. So how much money did you lose Whino?? Boo Hoo!

Let me clue you in on a little fact Whino. You're wasting your time. You could hire a thousand people to police the internet daily looking for Dead SBD sites - and you'd still lose the battle.
Why? Simply because the human need for culture and music - and the human need to SHARE without reward will always be stronger than the need for GREED. Take a site down today, and 2 more will pop up next week. You'll never, never stop the free download community. We're bigger, smarter and more
generous than you. Time, history, culture and simple math is on our side.
What great new release have you put out last month Whino? How about for Christmas 2007? The answer is a big fat ZERO.
You losers will be lucky to get your act together to release ONE good Dead show this year. If you'd put more energy into giving us some quality unreleased Dead shows instead of harassing harmless people we'd maybe have some respect for you.
Ten year contract? Don't make me laugh. You'll be lucky if lagging sales will keep this project afloat for another 2 years before your Ship of Fools is docked for good. Meanwhile - the trades, the torrents and the other sites will continue to flourish - forever! Fact - NPR news reported last month that 48 percent of young people surveyed said they had bought NO - that's ZERO - commercial CD's in the past year. That's up from just 38 percent a year ago.
I rest my case.

Did I forget to thank Charlie Miller? A guy whose shoes/shows Whino is not fit to lick. Thanks, Charlie - from your ears to our hearts and minds. We thank you.

I never stopped boycotting yet anyway.
Rock on,
Dr. Flashback :-)

yes, well-spoke Dr! and astute as always; it comes down to the simple fact that Jerry's music will never die, take down a site, take down ALL the sites, and yet, the music will STILL be shared, yes, there are jerks and greedy bastards among the fan-base, those who know nothing but taking, always taking, never giving anything back, but, they are few and we are many

great post from the Doc!

I will just add one element to the subject which i think is really key in what is happening with the Gratefuk Dead music:
deadheads are truely kind and spritied people who are commited to sharing freely the grateful dead music because they really love the music and what it represents.

therefore yes, whatever rhino will be doing and whatever stupidity they already do (crapy road trips for instance and no great release for Xmas etc ...)won't help them in succeeding in their quest to control the grateful dead music.
We deadheads, will keep on sharing, exchanging and communcating about the grateful Dead long after Rhino is gone...

Very well said Dr. The community of sharing is greater then
the greedy A-holes over at Rhino. We will survive and there
will be more sites popping up around the internet anyway.
There are to many good people sharing the love of the music
around here to let Rhino stop it.

It's just a shame that some people couldn't keep their mouth's
shut and posted links to sbd's here and other places as well.
I have more then I could probably listen to but there is so much more that is out there to be listened to.

Thank you Zephyr, Charlie Miller and all the Generous people
of this forum. May the Arrow Rise again and may all that should be available to us somehow see the light of day.
Jerry just rolled over in his grave AGAIN.

The Music Will Never Stop!!!

Peace~ Wharf.
